War in Afghanistan

Trooper Green recounts the moment he first stepped into Afghanistan. Afghanistan is a war zone that defines the generation of soldiers. The war in Afghanistan, often referred to as the American War in Afghanistan, began as a direct response to the September 11 attack. Supported by major allies, the United States launched an invasion aimed at dismantling al-Qaeda and eliminating Taliban control to prevent Afghanistan from becoming a terrorist base.

Initially supported by a coalition of allies, NATO officially joined the war effort in 2003. The conflict evolved into the longest war in US history following the brutal Afghan civil war (1996-2001). Britain, among other allies, remained involved in the final stages of the war from its first invasion.
