Queens, New York. Aime Leon Dore… doesn’t have a store there. The flagship store is located on Mulberry Street in Manhattan. But it is teetha meaningful, Queens-based brand.

The brand reflects founder and designer Teddy Santis. Santis is of Greek descent and grew up in Queens. He loves playing basketball with his friends. He saw people wearing Ralph Lauren on the street. He saw the way rappers styled their clothes. All these characteristics of his upbringing are reflected in his work.

However, they do not determine everything. While the brand’s regular lookbooks are beautiful in style, it’s in the festive lookbook called “The World’s Borough” that the brand shines the brightest.

Rather than hiring a small number of professional, regal models to showcase the clothes in a traditional way, The World’s Borough employs friends of the brand, local athletes, people in the industry, people in the city, and people’s families. , brings together real people, including people’s dogs. , and in one case, guests from a local fire department joined in to more naturally represent the brand.

Lookbooks are still professionally styled with expensive clothes and photographed by professional photographers in professional studios. But no one seems to be working. The models often wear goofy styles of clothing and play around in front of the camera. They dance, laugh and hug each other. Their diversity beautifully illuminates the New York community.

This approach has spawned many imitators, as Jason Diamond describes his experience as a model for J. Press. He coined the term “homie lookbook” to describe this phenomenon that spread to Drakes. But it all started with ALD.

The lookbook also features several regulars who are industry legends and friends of the brand, including Mordechai Rubinstein and Aaron Levine.

Below, we will share highlights from each lookbook along with some comments that will help you understand the appeal described above. Let’s consider the features of styling. A “Neo Prep” style is a casual revival of preppy and ivy tailoring. Use scarves and hats playfully. layering; and signature shoes (loafers, New Balance sneakers, low-top lug-soled Timberlands). And have fun. We’ll include links to each lookbook so you can choose your own highlights and save your own inspiration.

The Spring/Summer ’24 album celebrates the brand’s London store and is the only album not based in New York City. It’s not my favorite, but it’s not for me. The lookbook celebrates soccer instead of basketball, and London communities that I’m unfamiliar with are generally featured.

The photo here of Aaron Levine holding an apple is especially iconic.

In my opinion, this first lookbook is the best one. To me, this feels the most New York-like.
